The dutch singer –songwriter MYRIAM WEST ,based in Amsterdam ,has decided to devote her song LAND OF FREEDOM , to TAHIR ELCI and his daughter , and to all his family members and close friends and colleagues ,who are suffering of his tragic death on the 28 of november 2015.
Myriam s song - LAND OF FREEDOM- sings about freedom and being ruled ,about egoism and altruism ,about exclusion and making the world better together.
Tahir Elci was-until he was murdered – the well respected and well-loved president of the Diyarbakir Bar Association ,and also an active human rights advocate who started his work in his place of birth Cizre ,and was always ready to help anyone. Not long before the attack ,he was apprehended by an anti-terrorism-team and taken to Istanbul because he expressed his opinion in a television program. This abuse of anti terrorism law ,for someone who always acted openly, was very insulting for him. His death caused not only an extreme shock in Europe ,but also a wave of heavy indignation in the world of international lawyers and jurists .His death is not only a loss for Turkey ,but also for the humanity.
